Holes

The Drill & cutouts tool (H) drills single holes — e.g. for a cable, a handle or a pipe. Holes for dowels, confirmat screws, hinges and System-32 have their own tool: Joints and hardware.

  1. Select a panel (double-click). Without a selected panel the tool waits: Select a panel first.
  2. Press H or click Drill & cutouts on the right rail. A rail appears on the left with Add hole (on) and Add cutout.
  3. The banner says Click the panel to mark the hole position. Click roughly where the hole should be — you type the exact position in the next step. Esc cancels.
  4. In the hole form set:
    • Position from edges — the distance from two panel edges (From edge …). The marker in the 3D view moves as you type.
    • Face — A or B.
    • Diameter and Depth in millimetres.
    • Through hole — the hole goes right through the panel; the Depth field is then hidden.
  5. Click Add.

You can also add a hole from the Holes tab of the panel form: + in Free holes (Single hole).

Panel form, Holes tab, has two parts:

  • Free holes — holes you added by hand, with an ID (H1, H2 …), diameter and position. Clicking a hole opens Edit hole: change it and Save, or Delete hole.
  • Hole groups — holes from the joint tool: hinges, System-32, dowels, confirmat, eccentrics. They are not edited one by one — you edit and delete the joint in the Joints tab.

The number on the tab shows how many holes the panel has.

Small holes — under 10 mm in diameter that don’t go through the panel, e.g. for shelf pins — are shown as flat dark discs. This keeps the view fast even with hundreds of them.

The tool rail also has Precise holes (real cut): then every hole is really cut in the 3D view. This takes longer — the status bar at the bottom shows a progress bar. The setting stays on for the whole object until you turn it off.

A hole drilled into a panel edge (e.g. for a dowel in a side panel) has no A/B face choice — instead it shows which edge it is on.
