Cutouts
Cutouts share the tool with holes: Drill & cutouts → Add cutout (or the C key). With one
panel selected, the tool rail offers three modes:
| Mode | For |
|---|---|
| Free cutout — click a face | a rectangular cutout anywhere on the panel, e.g. for a socket or a sink |
| Rabbet (falc) along the edges | a stepped cut along the full length of an edge |
| Insert grooves — groove this panel into every panel it overlaps | grooves for an HDF back panel or a drawer bottom |
Free cutout
Section titled “Free cutout”- Select a panel (double-click).
- Drill & cutouts → Add cutout → Free cutout.
- The banner says Click the panel to mark the cutout position. Click the panel face.
- In the cutout form set the position from the edges, Face, Width (mm), Height (mm), Depth (mm) and optionally Corner radius (mm). For a cut right through the panel turn on Through cut.
- Click Add.
Rabbet
Section titled “Rabbet”A rabbet is a stepped cut along an edge — e.g. so a back panel sits in a side panel, or two boards overlap.
- Select a panel.
- Drill & cutouts → Add cutout → Rabbet. The banner says Rabbet: choose the edges and sizes in the panel form.
- In the form, under Rabbet (falc), turn the rabbet on for each edge you need (a, b,
c, d) and set:
- Face — which side of the panel,
- Width (from the edge),
- Depth — must stay below the panel thickness.
- Click Add (Save for an existing rabbet).
A rabbet runs the full length of the edge and follows the panel when you resize it. Remove rabbets deletes all rabbets of the panel.
Insert grooves
Section titled “Insert grooves”You set grooves on the panel that goes into the groove (HDF back, drawer bottom), not on the panels it is cut into.
- Place the panel so it reaches into the carcass by the groove depth — e.g. the back 8 mm deeper into the sides, bottom and top.
- Select it and turn on Drill & cutouts → Add cutout → Insert grooves.
- Every panel it overlaps gets a groove: groove = overlap + play. Set:
- Width play — split to both sides of the board,
- Depth play,
- Length play — added to stopped ends only.
- Panels to groove lists the size of each groove. Leave out a panel with Exclude this panel from the grooves.
- Click Add (Save for existing grooves). Remove grooves deletes them.
Grooves follow the panel: move or enlarge the back, and the grooves are recalculated. An overlap that sits in a groove no longer counts as an overlap error.
If a hand-drawn cutout for the same groove exists on a panel, the form offers to remove it (Remove hand-drawn cutout(s) these grooves replace).
The Cutouts tab
Section titled “The Cutouts tab”Panel form, Cutouts tab:
- Free cutouts — edit and delete them here.
+adds a new one. - Bound to the panel — rabbets and grooves. They follow the panel’s edges and overlaps, so they are not edited here, only deleted. You change them in the rabbet or groove form.
In the specification and the PDF, rabbets and grooves come with a note, e.g. “Rabbet a (face A)” or “Groove for Back”.
