Edge bands
An edge band covers the visible edges of a panel. You choose it for each edge separately.
Which edge is which
Section titled “Which edge is which”Edges are labelled relative to the panel’s face A:
| Edge | Side |
|---|---|
| a | top |
| b | bottom |
| c | left |
| d | right |
Each edge also shows its length, e.g. Top · 564 mm.
Edge band on one edge
Section titled “Edge band on one edge”- Open the panel → Material tab → Edge bands.
- In the edge’s row click the name (or No band) and choose a band from the list. The list is searchable; Add from database adds a band from the material database.
- The switch on the right turns the edge on or off. The chosen band is remembered even while the edge is off.
The edge band’s thickness comes from the band material, just as the board’s thickness comes from the board.
Quick apply
Section titled “Quick apply”So you don’t have to set each edge separately:
- Source — the edge whose settings are copied. An edge that is off can’t be the source.
- Apply to:
- All — all four edges,
- Long — the two longer edges,
- Short — the two shorter edges,
- None — turns all edges off.
Color and thickness are copied from the source edge.
Several panels at once
Section titled “Several panels at once”- In the panel list: Select multiple panels → tick the panels → Edit selected together.
- Material tab → set the band on an edge.
Each panel keeps its other edges. Mixed means the selected panels differ on that edge.
The whole object
Section titled “The whole object”The Object card in the inspector → Edge band row → choose a band. It goes on every edge of every panel. Then turn off the edges that aren’t visible — e.g. the back edges against the back panel.
Special cases
Section titled “Special cases”- Factory finished — an edge already finished at the factory (lock icon). It isn’t changed here.
- A round panel has one band for the whole rim: Edge band (rim).
- Gluing with border strips — the band on those edges covers the combined thickness; see Gluing.
- A rabbet does not shorten the edge band on that edge; see Cutouts.
In the specification
Section titled “In the specification”Every banded edge goes into the specification, with the metres of edge band per type for ordering. See Specification.
