Groups and drawers

A group is a set of panels that move and resize together — e.g. a drawer with its front, box and bottom, or an inner unit of a wardrobe. A group has its own box (width × height × depth) and its own anchor; panels in the group measure their position from the group anchor.

Two ways:

  • From a template — in the panel list, + next to Groups (Add group from template). You first point at an empty space, then choose a template — see Selecting space for a group.
  • From existing panels — Select multiple panels → tick the panels → Bulk actions → Group selected.

Templates come in three parts: System (shipped with the app), My groups (your own saved groups) and Public catalog.

Clicking a group in the list opens Edit group. In the 3D view: Alt (Mac: ⌥ Option) + double-click any panel of the group.

  • Name — Rename.
  • Position — from the object anchor, as for panels. You can also type -18 or +50.
  • Bounding frames — see below.
  • Panels in group — the group’s panels. Add panel adds a new panel to the group, Remove from group takes a panel out of the group — it stays in the object, under Dividers & shelves.
  • Delete group — deletes the group together with its panels.

While you edit a group, you can only select that group’s panels in the 3D view. Esc or a double-click on empty space takes you back.

A frame is the box the group’s panels go into and must stay inside — sizes outside a frame are flagged.

  • The Primary frame (e.g. Body) is the group’s main box.
  • A Secondary frame (e.g. Front) always leans on the primary one, and its side sets which side — e.g. a drawer front in front of the box.

Edit bounding frame opens the frame’s dimensions. It also holds Resize panels with group:

  • on — the panels adapt to the frame’s new size, following their anchors;
  • off — only the frame changes, the panels keep their size and position.

A group made from a drawer template has its own form: Edit drawer. A drawer is built from the opening it sits in — width and depth come from the opening and the slide.

Part Settings
Slide Series and Length — Automatic picks the longest slide that fits, with space behind it
Number of drawers Drawers (count), Heights: Equal, By ratio or By hand; Gap between fronts
Front Type: Overlay, Inset or No front; In the opening: Top, Middle, Bottom or Fill the opening; Height, Gap

Below is the Opening — the size of the opening the drawer goes into.

Drawer heights go from the top down. With By hand, the top drawer takes what is left.

The form warns you when something doesn’t fit, e.g.:

  • The 500 mm slide does not fit a depth of 450 mm.
  • The box is 60 mm high, the slide needs 70 mm.
  • The front is 18 mm thick, but there is 0 mm ahead of the panels.
  • A panel around the opening is gone. The drawer keeps its last size.

When you select a drawer, Open this drawer / Close this drawer appears left of the 3D view — the drawer slides out on its runner. See Display and visibility.
